Live Dead

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

John 20:21 Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the father has sent me, I am sending you."

O-bservation:

These were the words that Jesus spoke when he entered the room where his disciples had gathered for fear of the Jews. This was after the resurrection. He said several things to them, but this line stands out. He wanted his disciples and you and me to know that the same way his father had sent him into the world, he was sending us into the world. Of course, he was sent here to present the New Testament or Covenant built on God's grace. But also, he was sent here to die once and for all for the sins of mankind. He was called to "Live Dead."

A-pplication:

Jesus knew he was coming to die. But in saying to you and me that we are sent to this place called earth in the same way that he was sent to earth is probably saying, be prepared for anything. He knew he was to live as though he was dead, knowing his purpose was to die and rise again from the dead. Yet he wants you and me to live as though we may have to give the ultimate sacrifice! But either way, we will live our Christian faith out until we die, and that's what it means to live, ready for anything. Everyone that Jesus has ever redeemed from sin, he has always redeemed them in order to send them back to where they came from, changed by the power of God and with a testimony. Are you ready to "Live Dead?"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM, I'm ready for anything! I thank you that you have sent me into my world the same way your Heavenly Father sent you into this world. You are always ready to "Live Dead." Help me live the way you lived. Amen

Dead Weight

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 13:14 The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west.”

O-bservation:

This verse follows Abram’s separation from his nephew, Lot. Abram had taken his nephew out of Harran with him out of the goodness of his heart when Abram’s father, Terah, passed away. He had already been called of God and had heard God promise to make of him a great nation. But still, Lot had nowhere to go once Abram left for Canaan’s land. So Abram took Lot with him. But Lot created problems for his Uncle Abram to the point that his men began to war with Abram’s men. Abram finally said, “You take the land of your choosing, and I’ll take what’s left.” Lot chose Sodom and Gomorrah, and Abram took the leftovers. Lot was nothing more than “Dead Weight” to his uncle. Once the “Dead Weight” was gone, the Lord began to speak to Abram again about his future.

A-pplication:

Today happens to be my anniversary to the lovely Robyn! We’ve been talking about what we need to keep, and what is “Dead Weight” that needs to go to Goodwill, and who to empower moving forward in this new year. Sometimes, if we’re not careful, we’re packing things and people along on the journey with us that don’t bring much to the table. Instead of building your life, they’re actually “Dead Weight!” If you are willing to lose the “Dead Weight” in your life, I predict you’ll begin to hear from the Lord again. Just like Abram did.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Thank you for helping me through the years with people who have bought into the mission you’ve given me. Without that, there’s no way we could have built anything we have for Your glory. Thank You that the “Dead Weight” from yesterday is no longer dragging us down. Now, if I could just work on my closet! Amen

We Were Dead!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Ephesians 2:4-5 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

O-bservation:

This passage tells us that it’s not that we weren’t doing well before the Grace of God touched us. The truth is, “We Were Dead” in trespasses and sins, doomed to a Christless eternity. That’s right, no amount of trying to do good could have saved us. Only the wonderful grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, made it happen.

A-pplication:

Have you ever been in such a fix that you couldn’t fix it? Have you ever had someone tell you that you were too bad to do anything else but be bad? Have you ever been at a place in your life where you felt as if no one cared for you at all? Unfortunately, that is the plight of every human ever born on this planet. The pull of sin is so intense that it’s hard for anyone ever to do good without some underlying agenda, and of course, that in itself is a sin. But, wait, enter King Jesus. When Jesus comes in, sin’s chains are broken. The grip of hell is released, and the fear of eternity vanishes. Why? Because “We Were Dead,” but now we are alive through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM, it’s not hard for me to remember that “I Was Dead” before I met You. I had no hope and lived in fear. However, when You came into my life, everything changed. Today I am alive in You, my Lord. Amen

Get Understanding

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 49:20 People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish.

O-bservation:

King David said, "People who are rich but not smart are no better off than a dead animal who once ran in the wild. I can't ever remember reading of, or hearing of, a beast in any untamed wilderness anywhere being reported on. Surely there are wild beasts, some of whom are massive and powerful and wreak terror in people's hearts, who come in contact with them. But, who cares? They die, no one knows, and no one cares. That's the SAME category that a wealthy UN-SMART person is in, via heaven's opinion.

A-pplication:

Understanding is more than just knowledge. It also has a whole lotta wisdom thrown in with it. So often, King David's son, King Solomon, said in his Proverbs, "Whatever you do, get WISDOM!" How many people of real financial gain have you met or heard in your life that you thought, "That person is as dumb as a box of rocks?" Money can do crazy things to people. I've witnessed wealthy entertainers and athletes go on a talk show because of their profession. Before you know it they leave what they're good at and take the discussion down some rabbit trail on Politics or their pet "Social Project." The more you listen to them, the more you think, "You guessed it, same song second verse!" David said a wealthy person with no wisdom is like a dead beast in the woods. No one knows, no one cares, no one remembers! But the wealthy, the middle income, and even the poor person who has UNDERSTANDING, will leave a positive mark when they're gone. Whatever you do ... "Get Understanding!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM, I am thinking that I'm never too old to get a new idea. I'm never too old to think a new thought. And most of all, I'm not too old to ... "Get Understanding!" Help me in my quest today. Amen

Jesus Can Raise Dead Stuff

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

John 11:23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

O-bservation:

This is the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. Jesus was close friends with Lazarus and his two sisters, Martha and Mary. The sisters had sent word to Jesus that Lazarus was really sick. Jesus delayed His coming to the point that when He arrived Lazarus had been dead and in the tomb for four days. But when Jesus finally arrived He said to Martha, "Your brother will rise again."

A-pplication:

In any given challenge here on earth, Jesus was always MORE than merely man. Jesus was and is and forever shall be, GOD. In fact, what wasn't normal to Jesus was living within the confines of human flesh. So whenever a miracle was called for, Jesus always reverted to what was NORMAL for Him ... "Being GOD!" Of course God can do anything, not the least of which is "Raising Dead Stuff." Jesus is never out of control, helpless, hopeless, in a quandary, or confused. If you're sick, He can heal you. If you're broke, He can supply your every need. If your family is shattered, He can mend and blend it back together. All of these instances mentioned represent "Dead Stuff." Body cells have become diseased, rotted, and have died. Financial stability has died. A family that once thrived has been severed and something has died. Remember, however, who it is we're talking about. We're not talking about Jesus the mere mortal man. Rather we are talking about Jesus who is God. Just being mortal is one thing, but being God represents a plethora of possibilities. Why? Because, "Jesus Can Raise Dead Stuff."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I'm so thankful that years ago, when I was dead in my failure and outright rebellion, You raised me back to eternal life. Amen
