Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Nehemiah 10:39b

We will not neglect the house of our God.

O-bservation:

After “The Wall” had been rebuilt by Nehemiah and his returning Jewish cohorts, Ezra the prophet read the law before the people of Israel. As he read, they began weeping and then repenting. Then they made a series of new commitments to the Lord. The last of these was that they would never again NEGLECT the house of the Lord.

A-pplication:

Of course the people of Israel didn’t keep their promise for long. That’s not the point here. What is important is you and me. We have the chance to be different. I was raised by parents whose entire life was spent putting Jesus and His house FIRST! They made the decision to put the Lord’s house before their own house in importance. Because of that, they have an enduring legacy. Robyn and I have endeavored to follow our parents’ path. The Israelites realized their mistakes, and in getting a fresh start they said we’ll NOT NEGLECT the house of the Lord again! Why not join Robyn and me today and say once and for all … “Away With NEGLECT!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’ll say it again … “You Are First!” Always. Amen

There Are Some Things You’ll Never Know

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Acts 1:7

He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.

O-bservation:

When Jesus ascended the Mount of Olives for the final time before His ascension, His disciples thought it was just another walk in the park. They asked Him, “Are You getting ready to set up Your earthly kingdom?” He said, “God the Father is in charge of all of that!”

A-pplication:

Some questions need to be left on the table. We try to understand the times and the signs of the times, but then we proceed to giving dates it will happen. Jesus was saying in this passage, “There Are Some Things You’ll Never Know!” Why? Because it’s in God’s hands. Immediately after this verse Jesus said, “But you’re going to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit very soon. Wait for it!!” In other words, Jesus was saying, “I have power you need right now for what I’m calling you to do. After that, you will be given information on a need-to-know basis!” Those things we think we need to know, only the Father really knows. Consequently, “There Are Some Things You’ll Never Know.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m content this AM to trust You on a Need-To-Know basis for my future. I’m in Your hands and I’m thankful that I am. Amen

He’s Been Around FOREVER

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 146:5

Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God.

O-bservation:

King David had defeated a lot of foreign kings. I’m sure he had observed and even studied who or what they worshipped. But in the final analysis David said, “Make sure your hope is in the Lord God of Israel, that’s where your help will truly come from.”

A-pplication:

As I pondered this SOAP passage this AM, I thought to myself, “The same God that David was speaking of is the same God I worship, Jesus Christ.” Then I thought to myself, in my small finite way of thinking, “He’s Been Around FOREVER!” There is something comforting about worshipping the one true God who is ALWAYS there when you call Him. He’s ALWAYS listening and He’s ALWAYS acting in our behalf. Sure there are times you wish our God would respond differently, but that’s because He knows and we don’t what is in front of us. So when I don’t know, HE KNOWS. That’s all I need to move forward. Besides, “He’s Been Around FOREVER!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

This AM I’m so thankful that before I ever told you my problem today You have already answered that same prayer for millions of others for thousands of years! I’m with You, FOREVER! Amen

Too Little Too Late

S-cripture:

Luke 23:47

The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.”

O-bservation:

After Jesus had hung on a cruel cross and endured excruciating pain for the better part of a day, he died. Shortly after, one of the soldiers walked by the cross, looked up, thought about it and said, “This was definitely a good man.”

A-pplication:

If there was ever a time where the statement “Too Little Too Late” applied, it is with this soldier who did nothing to change anything, but instead uttered an inconsequential word we already knew. That seems to be the order of our present day. People will make a personal un-thought out statement, post it on social media, and walk away like they did something worthy. They’ve done nothing but draw the applause of a few of their friends, or the rage of someone else they don’t know. This could be called the “Too Little Too Late” generation. There was a time when dreams, rolled up sleeves, and hard work produced a harvest, but now it’s supposed to come instantaneously, with little or no effort. But that’s not the way history works. If the soldier really thought Jesus was a good person, he should have done something ahead of time to keep the tragedy from happening. But instead we get his post that cost him nothing.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I remember you saying, “If anyone wants to follow Me,” that we would have to take up our cross and follow You. I’m ready. There’s always been a cost. Amen

In Case You Have An Important Meeting Today

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Nehemiah 1:11b

Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.

O-bservation:

The servant of the Lord who was making this request was Nehemiah. He was King Artaxerxes’ cupbearer and he had a need to lead a group of Jewish people, who were exiled in Babylon, back to Jerusalem to rebuild the wall. He was preparing to ask Artaxerxes for permission that day, but first stopped and asked the Lord to give him success and favor with the man he would speak to.

A-pplication:

“In Case You Have An Important Meeting Today,” why not first do what Nehemiah did. In preparation for his meeting with the king, he first had a meeting with HIS KING. He asked the Lord for success and favor before he talked to the king. Any important meeting with earthlings needs to be prefaced with a prayer meeting with OUR KING. Never mistake emphasizing the temporal over the eternal. When you talk to Jesus FIRST … The WALL will get built before you know it.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Before any of my important meetings today, I need Your favor to grant me the success I need. Amen
