Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
Acts 12:24
But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.
O-bservation:
At this time in history, King Herod was “wreaking havoc” upon the infant New Testament Church. He had John’s brother James killed. Then he put Peter in prison. In the night, while the church prayed, God sent His angel and the angel released Peter from prison. The next day, Herod inquired of the prison guards, then he had them killed. Eventually, King Herod mounted his throne attired in purple robes and gave a great speech. When he finished the people yelled … “He’s a god!” At which point an Angel of the Lord struck Herod dead. Then, as this one line verse says, “Even with all this going on the Word of God continued to spread and flourish!”
A-pplication:
In my years of “Following Jesus,” the one thing that has continued to go “VIRAL” is the Word of God. Men and women fail. Political systems fall apart. Government’s burn Bibles, but somehow the Word of God remains “VIRAL.” In 2 Timothy 2:9, the Apostle Paul says, “I’m in chains for preaching the GOSPEL … but … the Word of God is not CHAINED” (paraphrase). God’s Word is LIVING. It is ORGANIC. You cannot kill it. You can burn it, forbid it, shred it, punish folks for reading it, or try and BAN IT. But it cannot be abolished. It is God’s Word. That’s why we say it’s … V I R A L!
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Once again today, I Thank You for Your Word. It is my light. It is my compass. It is the map that will lead me all the way home. I love Your Word. Amen
