Use Discretion

S. O. A. P.

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Corinthians 8:9

Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak.

O-bservation:

Paul was not speaking here of being raised in a free country that emphasizes the rights of every citizen. Rather, the Apostle was speaking about being free from religion and tradition and rules through new life in Jesus Christ. Yet he said, “There are some who are weak in their faith and are easily persuaded by the actions of others. Please don’t let your rights cause someone who is weak to stumble in their faith because of observing your example or mine.”

A-pplication:

In the 2nd letter to the Corinthian church, Paul said, “The love of Christ constraineth us” (2 Corinthians 5:14). In other words, our devotion to Christ holds us in place in our commitment to Him. That though we are free in Jesus we are willing to relinquish any and all rights, as would a soldier in order to win victory. Winning the victory for any “Follower of Jesus” means seeing friends and family and associates come to faith in Christ as well. In other words, we say “‘Whatever It Takes’ to bring people to Jesus is what we’re prepared to do.” So when it comes to our personal liberties, we—in hopes of winning our loved ones to Jesus—will … “Use Discretion.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,
I need Your help in order to yield my rights to You again today. I don’t want to drive people away from You, I want to draw them near to You. Amen
