S. O. A. P.
Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
Psalm 21:1
The king rejoices in your strength, Lord. How great is his joy in the victories you give!
O-bservation:
In this Psalm of David, the King writes in the “Third Person.” He uses these verses to praise and give glory to the Almighty. He concludes the chapter without wavering from the “Third Person” by saying, “Be exalted in your strength Lord; we (or all of us) will sing and praise your might (vs. 13).
A-pplication:
Third person authorship is especially good when it’s done to give all praise and glory to our great God. It’s as if you’re losing yourself in a sea of “PRAISERS.” Unfortunately, David writes this way when he’s living the “Good Life.” When trouble comes, he reverts back to “First Person” reality. The very next verse he says, “MY God, MY God why have You forsaken ME? (Ps. 22:1). As soon as he is in trouble, “First Person” words like ME, MY, and I, are reintroduced, and suddenly it’s all about HIM once again. If we aren’t careful, we’ll praise God in the good times but look to ourselves in the bad times as our only way out. Or worse yet, forget about every other struggling person on the planet and push our agenda to the front of God’s … “Today’s TO DO List.” In my own life I’ve come to the conclusion that … “It’s Time For A ‘THIRD PERSON’ Check!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help me today, when approaching You, to promote You, and praise You, and glorify You, and laud You! I just want to be one of millions lifting You up right now! Amen
