This Is Gonna Hurt ME, More Than It Hurts YOU

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Ezekiel 18:32

For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!

O-bservation:

Throughout the book of Ezekiel, God pronounces the punishment the Israelis must endure because of their sins. And before anyone can begin to hurl accusations at God suggesting that He relishes in His punishment of His own people, God dispels any potential such accusations. He states, “If you think I’m having fun you couldn’t be more wrong. I’m begging you to repent so that you can live!”

A-pplication:

When I was a young boy and got in trouble, my Father before he disciplined me would say, “Son this is going to hurt me more than it hurts you!” I would turn and look at my Dad and say, “Dad, please … Don’t put yourself through it!” But my dad really meant it. I never understood the sorrow behind the discipline of a loving parent until I became a parent. I can remember saying the same thing to each of my boys that dad had said to me. And, there was a “Deep Thought” in me that was not unlike God. It went like this. Guys, if you would just stop messing up things would go so much better for you. I beg you to change because … “This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Thank You that I am not where I want to be but I am better than I used to be. I think I got tired of seeing You cry when you disciplined me. Amen
