Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Colossians 4:6
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
O-bservation:
Here the Apostle Paul teaches all “Followers of Jesus” how to talk. He said, “When you’re in conversation with someone always speak with honor and grace, but also sprinkle some salt in with it. That way your wisdom can always lead the conversation.”
A-pplication:
This passage is good for all people, everywhere, and at all times. I often hear people open a conversation with a “cutting joke” about the person with whom they’re speaking. It’s a lousy way to show honor and grace. Biting or cutting remarks in any conversation shows a disrespect for the other person. When I hear this, I want to say and often have, “What Are You Talking About?” Kind and honorable words, as it relates to the person, are always the measure of the person speaking. However, the “SALT” mentioned in this text is usually given in the form of a question so the other person understands that you understand the situation at hand. Once you’ve blessed someone, and then asked the right salt-filled question, they will look to you for wisdom as the conversation and relationship unfolds. The Lord has shown us all how to talk. As we follow His lead, no one will ever have to address us with the question, “What Are You Talking About?”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for teaching me how to properly converse with people. With Your help I will honor my fellow humans with my words, AND with a little salt thrown in today. Amen
