Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Philippians 1:27a
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.
O-bservation:
Even in the early stages of the newly formed Christian Church and Faith there was a STANDARD in place. How else could the Apostle Paul have talked about living in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ?
A-pplication:
In the field of professional boxing there are weight classes. For instance, there is a Welterweight, a Middleweight, a Light Heavyweight, and a Heavyweight Class, just to name a few. In other words, there is a weight standard a boxer must meet in order to fight in a certain weight class. If a fighter has put on too much weight before a fight, they will have to take pounds off to qualify for that weight class the day before the fight. Leading up to the fight, managers and trainers and friends and family will ask … “How You Doing?” They know there’s a standard that is expected from the boxer to box in that weight division. As “Followers of Jesus,” we have been elevated by Jesus to live an “Abundant Life” that attracts people to the Lord. So, because of the “Abundant Life” we have been afforded, Paul reminds us that whatever happens we are to conduct our lives in a way that is meeting the Gospel standard to which we have been called. “How You Doin?”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I admit, sometimes I’m not doing great. But with Your help this AM, I will remember my calling as a “Follower of Jesus.” I know folks are watching, but more than that I want to bring You Praise. Amen
