Who Is A God Like YOU?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Micah 7:18 Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.

O-bservation:

Here we see the Prophet Micah standing back and giving praise to our great God at the end of his prophecy. Micah saw the mess all around him. He saw the consequences of Israel's sin and had prophesied her punishment, but he also saw God's forgiveness and willingness to bring Israel back into prominence.

A-pplication:

Micah was right. There is no God like our wonderful Lord! When I was little, I would mess up or disobey and my Father would discipline me. He was never smiling when he disciplined me. In fact, a couple of times he cried over me, but my Father loved me too much to stay upset with me. Within minutes he would say, "Hey Rich you want to go get some ice cream, or you want to go play catch?" Discipline is a part of love, but it's never at the heart of love. What's at the heart of love is love. God shows us love over and over again, and it just never ends. Undeniably sin carries its own wallop, but if we are truly repentant the next thing we hear out of God’s heart is something like, "Hey, you wanna get some ice cream?" He just doesn't stay angry. Really ... "Who Is A God Like You?"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I'm always amazed by You! Your love just keeps coming. The hard parts of my life I usually create for myself, but Your love is unstoppable. Thank You, thank You, thank You for never stopping! Amen

The Origin Of Prophecy

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Peter 1:21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

O-bservation:

The Apostle Peter made it very clear concerning “The Origin of Prophecy.” He said that humans didn’t make prophetic utterances up; rather, the words were given to them by God, and the Holy Spirit strengthened them to give them.

A-pplication:

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that humans aren’t involved in the gifts of the Spirit. The fact is, we are God’s vessels to deliver the gifts to His people. But He is the one orchestrating the content. There is the possibility of fabricating these gifts. That is a real concern. However, phonies are always discovered in time. The normal workings of the gift of Prophecy or any other gift originates in heaven. God gives the words, the Holy Spirit empowers His vessel (i.e. you and me), and the gift is presented to one or more people. If you’ve ever wondered, that comprises “The Origin Of Prophecy.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I’m so happy that You are the originator of all the Gifts of The Spirit. Today it is my desire to be used as Your vessel. Amen

A Unique Day Indeed

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Zechariah 14:7 It will be a unique day—a day known only to the Lord—with no distinction between day and night. When evening comes, there will be light.

O-bservation:

Many theologians believe this prophecy given is speaking of the initial going out of the gospel. Jesus came to earth. He presented God in the flesh to humankind for all time. He taught the gospel in a new and grace-filled way. Then he was crucified for the sins of all mankind. He was then raised from the dead and ascended into heaven. Ten days later, Pentecost was poured out in the Upper Room in Jerusalem, and the church was born. From there, it became the church militant once and for all, inasmuch as men and women were now compelled to give their lives in death for the cause of Christ, with no weapon in hand. It was “A Unique Day Indeed.”

A-pplication:

You have to include the verses before and right after this verse and study it deeper to come to that conclusion, yet, what I’ve said seems to be the case. The prophet here appears to be separating the dispensation of law-driven faith in God and the dispensation of grace-driven faith in God through Jesus the Messiah. To be honest, there must be a separation. Even to this day, grace is often placed on the shelf in Christian Churches, and religious dogma rises up as it did in Old Testament times. When this feeling of “my own thoughts on such and such a matter” should take precedence over New Testament gospel truth, always remember. It was “A Unique Day Indeed!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Thank you again this AM for this wonderful prophet Zechariah. Thank you that he prophesied the future in such a way that is not only of the Messiah but is also about the “DAY,” everything changed from Law to Grace. Help me stay Grace “FILLED” and Grace “FULL” in everything thing I do. Amen

What A Prophecy

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Zechariah 13:1 On that day, a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and impurity.

O-bservation:

This was the prophecy of Zechariah concerning the coming of Jesus, the Messiah. This prophecy took place some four hundred years before Jesus came and ministered on earth and then was crucified and resurrected for our sins. “What A Prophecy” it was. Jesus spoke of Zechariah being murdered by religious leaders in the courtyard of the temple in Matthew 23. So Zechariah prophesied Jesus being the cleansing for the sins of Israel and all people of earth four-hundred or so years before it happened, and Jesus spoke of the Old Testament prophet and how he had died!

A-pplication:

You can’t make this stuff up! The prophecies of Jesus coming to earth in the Old Testament are numerous. And they are given by a number of different prophets. The consistency of scripture is not only compelling, but it is the standard by which we find peace and solace in such troubled times. When I read Zechariah’s word here in the thirteenth chapter, I always think, “What A Prophecy!” But to be honest, that’s the same thing I think with each for-telling of Jesus’ coming in the Old Testament, by all of the different prophets God used. Don’t ever give up on your faith. What you and I believe about Jesus and the bright future is given in God’s word to all believers; truly, he is the way, the truth, and the life! “What A Prophecy!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM, I’m in awe of you! I never cease to be amazed as I read your Word and the many ways you encourage your people to never give up. I am not an accident. Everything about me screams there is a God who loves me. Thank you, that you have a plan for my friend and me. Amen

Jesus, God’s Anointed One

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Habakkuk 3:13 You came out to deliver your people, to save your anointed one. You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness, you stripped him from head to foot.

O-bservation:

This prophecy by Habakkuk is looked upon by theologians as a prophecy of not just one occasion but for many occasions where God stepped in over the centuries of time to intervene on his peoples’ behalf. Judah was the object of his love, and over and over, his people failed him. But time and time again, God delivered his people to save his anointed one. You could say that God’s anointed one was at one point Abraham, or Moses or David. And in their time, they were, but ultimately God saved the one and only true Anointed One, even his son Jesus, as the Savior of the world.

A-pplication:

When you think about it, all of us have been called of God to be his anointed one. I have known at different times in my life a number of well-known men and women of God who truly stepped up and were God’s anointed one in the place they served. Yet, that is God’s desire for all of his people, that when needed, we would be at any moment his anointed one. But you and I both know that there is one who, if not for him, we’d all be lost without hope. I’m speaking this AM of “Jesus, God’s Anointed One.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m so grateful I can hardly write this AM as I think of what you mean to me. But I would not be so selfish as to think of me only. You are “Jesus, God’s Anointed One,” for the whole world. Without you, there would be no reason for living. Amen
