Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Corinthians 14:3
But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.
O-bservation:
St. Paul had mentioned the nine gifts of the Spirit earlier in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10. In this passage he tells us that the gift of PROPHECY is special, because with it we are able to strengthen and encourage and comfort others.
A-pplication:
When I was a little boy growing up in my parents’ Pentecostal church, I was afraid of prophets and the prophecies they gave. For some reason they thought that their prophecies had to be leveled at someone they were thinking about (in the church) while they were prophesying. It was always harsh and the words “eternal damnation” were often used. When they finished they would sit down and the people would say amen. I would think, “Well, he was prophesying about Mrs. Jones and everyone knows where she’s going now.” It’s easy to see that this passage was not always taught 50 years ago. The gift of prophecy is to strengthen and encourage and comfort people. AND … all “Jesus Followers” should have this gift, and all should use the gift EVERY DAY! Don’t wait for someone else to prophesy, instead, “Make Sure You Prophesy Today!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I love You. Because I love You, I can’t wait to see someone and prophesy over them today. Amen
