Sow SERVICE, Reap LEADERSHIP

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Mark 9:35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

O-bservation:

Jesus' disciples were enamored by His greatness. They desperately wanted to be great as well, but just couldn't comprehend how. Jesus sat with them and said, "Whoever wants to be great must first stand at the end of the line and serve everyone else."

A-pplication:

The real way to lead is to first serve. Service to God and our fellow humans is the doorway to leadership. Only kings could actually demand a following. However, everything changed when the ultimate King, Jesus, entered the world. His was not a life of power gleaned from top down tyranny. Jesus started at the bottom, and through His actions He taught us how to serve our way out of a life of insignificance. Even then the goal is never to become great. True leaders gain the confidence of those surrounding them through service, allowing them to lead others into abundant living. In effect Jesus taught us to "Sow SERVICE, Reap LEADERSHIP."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, It is my goal to serve You with ALL of my heart. In so doing You have taught me to serve others. I often fail, please stay with me and hold me up. Amen

The Greatness Of Our God

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 89:8 Who is like you, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

O-bservation:

When you read the Psalms for very long, you will find that the author, King David, had three basic categories of discussion. First, his continual Thanksgiving and Gratefulness to God for everything the Lord had done for him. Second, David is regularly writing about his Enemies and asking God to deliver HIM or annihilate THEM. And third, David is awestruck by the Greatness of Our God. In this passage, King David again Acknowledges the GREATNESS of Jehovah! And then he says "Your Faithfulness surrounds You!"

A-pplication:

It's no wonder really, that David was so victorious over such a long period of time. He had his eyes and attention and loyalty so FIXED on The Almighty, that it was hard for David to linger on the strength of his enemies too long. There was a deep confidence and dependence on the fact that no matter how difficult the obstacle, God would remove it, or help David remove it. I suppose the question this AM is, what are we focusing our attention and concern on? If my obstacle becomes my object of continual attention, worry, concern, and lack of sleep over, then for sure that obstacle will in time find victory over me! On the other hand, if I set my focus and my attention on The Almighty, the obstacle in my life is diminished! Together, we would be wise this AM to set our focus on … "The Greatness Of Our God!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, You are TOO Great for me to interject some small obstacle in my path in order to suggest You are now facing a worthy opponent. I realize this AM that NOTHING can withstand Your Greatness! Amen

GREATNESS

S. O. A. P

Here's your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

John 3:30 He must become greater, I must become less.

O-bservation:

These are the words of Jesus' cousin "John the Baptist," who was the forerunner of Jesus. John was Jesus’ personal "Herald" in His day ... "Promoter" in ours. But here we see him gracefully step aside from his place of prominence to a lesser role in Gods "Big Plan." And he says ... "Jesus must become greater and I must become less."

A-pplication:

In a strange way John the Baptist is forever sealed in our hearts as one of the greatest men who ever lived. He achieved Great-Ness by pursuing Less-Ness! Some weeks ago in our city, a well-known aged minister came to speak for two nights at our famous arena. Thousands attended each night and it was a marvelous success. This man has seen over 70 million people come to Christ through his ministry in Africa during 35 years of service. There was absolutely NO showmanship connected to his presentation whatsoever, and all he talked about was the love and greatness of Jesus. For two nights he Promoted Jesus. Now there is absolutely NO arguing John the Baptist's words in this verse, but I must say as I heard the aged Christian minister in the arena that night, all I could think of was ... "GREATNESS."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Thank You for men and women in my life who have spent their lives directing people like me toward You. In my opinion I've seen "GREATNESS" in them every time they pushed the "Greatness" towards You. Amen
