Keep Acting On Your Faith

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Kings 4:35 Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out on him once more. The boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.

O-bservation:

Years earlier, Elisha had prophesied that this Shunammite woman would have a son. The woman and her husband had built a room for the Prophet to stay in and the Prophet wanted to bless her. Sure enough, a year later the boy was born. Fast-forward about 12 years and one day while working in the field with his Father the boy evidently had a heat stroke and died. Elisha was far away, so the Shunammite woman raced on her animal with an employee to find him. When she found him, Elisha sent his servant Gehazi to run ahead with his staff and lay the staff on the boy. It didn't work. When Elisha and the Shunammite woman arrived the boy was still dead. Elisha got up on the boy and breathed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation in him but nothing happened. So Elisha walked around the room and got back up on the boy and did mouth to mouth resuscitation again and the boy sneezed seven times and came back to life!

A-pplication:

The power of this miracle is that Elisha just "Kept Acting On His Faith!" At first he had his associate take his staff back to lay it on the dead boy’s body while he and the woman followed behind. That didn't work! So when he arrived and found the boy still dead, he got up on the boy’s body and gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. That didn't work either. But he didn't quit. A second time he got up on the boy’s body and gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and this time the boy came back to life! "Keep Acting On Your Faith." When all else fails, don't give up whatever you do! Try something else or a do the same thing again and again. But ... "Keep Acting On Faith!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I will pledge to You that I won't give up today. With Your help I WILL ... "Keep Acting On My Faith!" Amen

Shipwrecked Faith

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Timothy 1:19 Holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.

O-bservation:

St. Paul spoke as an aged preacher of the gospel to his young disciple Timothy and said, "I am commanding you to hold onto your faith and a strong conscience, which some have rejected and their faith has been shipwrecked!"

A-pplication:

At one time or another, all of us have faced weariness in our faith. In other words, faith can get tired if we're not fueling it every day with personal devotion and prayer. When we allow tired faith to take over, laxness sets in to our way of thinking. The conscience becomes weakened to sin’s temptation. Now our conscience goes from being strong to being lazy. In time, tired faith and a lazy conscience leave folks with "Shipwrecked Faith." Has your life with Jesus become "Ho-Hum?" Are you bored with living? Please, today, awaken out of your slumber. Really! Wake up! It's dangerous when you sail so close to the shoreline. If you're not careful you can become dashed upon the rocks of COMPROMISE. This world is filled with people who failed to contend or fight for their faith. They in turn got lazy in their conscience and today they have experienced ... "Shipwrecked Faith." But that will not happen to you. Hoist the mast of FAITH today and sail into the deep with Jesus. Your faith will STRENGTHEN and your conscience will be STEADFAST.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, With Your help today I won't get lazy. I will, by FAITH, sail away from the shoreline of compromise where the rocks are and into the deep where FAITH is my "Life Preserver!" Amen

There’s A War On Out There People!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

O-bservation:

Paul wrote 13, some argue 14, books of the New Testament. He was one of the most educated authors of the entire Bible. This is an important backdrop to what he says in this passage. He's not a religious nut, but he says that the war we're fighting as "Believers" is not a war waged in the confines of the natural world but rather in the realm of the Spirit. It's not against human flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers in high places. In other words ... "There's A War On Out There People." But it's not a war that you can engage with weapons of earthly warfare.

A-pplication:

The day for glossing over continual problems, struggles, challenges, and dreams that just happened to go sideways as ... "Well you win some and you lose some" ... must end! This is spiritual warfare and sometimes it's apparent to other "Christ Followers" long before we pick up on it. Paul directs us in the next several verses to put on the full armor of God in preparation for battle. The armor includes: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, and the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God. Oh, and praying in the spirit at all times! Because ... "There's A War On Out There People!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Help me to stop all foolishness and face the day with a resolve to fight the good fight of faith with all that is in me. Amen

LIFE, Both Here and Over There

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Proverbs 12:28 In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.

O-bservation:

Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, promoted RIGHTEOUSNESS as a way to eternal life over THERE and Legacy or Immortality on THIS side of heaven. In other words, a righteous man’s name lives on through others, here on earth, long after he has physically passed away.

A-pplication:

In Solomon’s day there hadn't been a means of salvation through faith in Jesus. Jesus had not yet come and laid down His life for our sins. In Solomon’s day it was the promise of heaven through "Good Works." Obviously the "Good Works Plan" didn't work. Every human being needs the salvation of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit in order to live the "Abundant Life" God has planned for us. Yet, every person who determines to live a righteous life through the saving grace of Jesus will have eternal life over THERE forever. But even while they're here on earth, they impact so many folks, including their own families, that long after they're gone they continue to influence the generations that follow after them. Solomon called it "Immortality," we call it "Legacy." God said, "If you will love Me and obey Me I will bless a 1,000 generations of those who follow after you (Exodus 20:6, paraphrase). So why not choose today to live Righteous by God’s Grace. If you do, you will experience ... "Life, Both HERE and Over THERE!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Because of Your "Saving Grace" in my life, it is my honor to yield to Your Will and Way. I know that YOU know what's best for me. Amen

Pray For Mercy

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Romans 9:16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.

O-bservation:

In this chapter, St. Paul addressed the issue of God's sovereignty. It's not a matter of humans turning the heart of God one way or another. God is not an object to be used by humans. On the contrary, humankind is totally dependent on the Almighty for air itself. Everything boils down to the "Mercy of God" and who He chooses to show His mercy to.

A-pplication:

Some may cry ... "This is unfair and unjust!" But if you really think about it, this would be like an Ant telling the Mayor of New York it's unfair to build the new "Freedom Tower" on top of his "Ant House." This thing called pride, and the idea that we mortals are in any way self-sufficient, is laughable in the eyes of God. We are the "Creation" not the "Creator." We have one option, one mission, one direction, one purpose, one dream, one daily wake-up call ... "Pray For Mercy!" That's it!! Once there is total assurance in your heart and mine that outside of Jesus we are completely void of even an ounce of hope, life begins to open up to us. Our ability to love, honor, serve, lead, pray, and do it all over again and again becomes liberating and purposeful, and our "Thanks-O-Meter" to our God soars. With this in mind, there's only one thing to do ... "Pray For Mercy!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Today, just like blind Bartimaeus of old, I want to say ... "Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me!" Amen
