Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
Mark 1:35
Very early in the morning while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
O-bservation:
No doubt Jesus modeled a pattern for His disciples to follow. In this case, He got up early to talk to His Father without the interference of cell phone messages or emails. He knew that later on in the day He would be inundated with noise and people competing for “His Time.” So He got up early before everyone else and dominated time … because at an early hour and in a solitary place He faced NO opposing or competing voices. And He prayed.
A-pplication:
I have learned that unless you start your day with Jesus, you’ll finish your day with so many voices in your head that it won’t really matter that you’re in bed. The point is it’s hard to sleep at night with the voices from the day still arguing in your thoughts. Somehow, when you rise early before the others, and your phone is turned off, and you haven’t opened your computer, it’s now just you and the Lord. And oh the peace and quiet and solitude. It is in these times that I gather my thoughts, dominate time, and hear the directions for my day from Jesus. A little strange you think? Perhaps. Still … if I had to do it all over again … I’d say, “Start Your Day With Jesus!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Right off the bat this AM, I want to say thank You for a great night’s rest. In my time alone with You, I know You will direct my day again. You know that I am so Thankful! Amen
