S. O. A. P.
Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
Job 20:5
The mirth of the wicked is brief, the joy of the Godless lasts but a moment.
O-bservation:
One of Job’s friends joined the conversation in this chapter and discussed the fate of all unbelievers. He referred to them as Godless and wicked. The report on the wicked and the Godless goes something like this: their mirth—meaning euphoria, glee, and hilarity—is only brief and their joy lasts only momentarily.
A-pplication:
The Word of God is true and infallible. I say this because most “Unbelievers” I know sure appear to be “Party Animals,” and they seem to be having a better time than all the rest of us put together. There’s so much more that isn’t being said here at first reading. But if you read the Bible through in its entirety, and serve Jesus for any length of time, it’s apparent that the rest of the story could read like this … things are not always as they appear at first sight. Sometimes even a “Happy Smile” can be covering up a bitter and a broken heart. Could it be that the brief joy and limited euphoria the unbeliever is experiencing can only be realized by way of self-medication? To all of you “Jesus People” this AM … unlike “The Brief Joy of The Unbeliever,” you and I have access to what the Apostle Peter referred to as “Inexpressible and Glorious Joy” (1 Peter 1:8, paraphrase). So, stay with Jesus and be filled with Joy.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Honestly, because of YOU, I’m ready this AM. I’m full of JOY. You have made me this way! Amen
