The Spirit of Leadership

S. O. A. P.

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Numbers 27:18

So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership, and lay your hand on him.”

O-bservation:

Earlier in this chapter, God told Moses to go up to the top of a certain mountain and see the Promised Land. “As soon as you see it you will die, the Lord told him, and be gathered to your people.” Moses was concerned that the right person would be chosen to lead the people of Israel so that they would not be like sheep without a shepherd. God said, “Lay your hand upon Joshua the Son of Nun. He has ‘The Spirit of Leadership,’ on him. Anoint him to take your place.”

A-pplication:

It’s apparent in this passage that when choosing a leader we need to be aware of men and women in our circle who already have “The Spirit of Leadership” on them. In other words, leadership begins with a “Spiritual Anointing to Lead.” It certainly can be enhanced by study and experience, but it starts with an actual gifting or anointing or “Spirit of Leadership” given by God. We have young leaders in our employ here in Miami who are serving the vision of the house who you can just tell have “IT!” We call it, “The IT Factor.” They’ve got whatever “IT” is. But we also know that “The IT Factor” is actually an anointing to lead from the Lord. It’s known as “The Spirit of Leadership.”

P-rayer:

The “Spirit of Leadership” is not anything we can make happen on our own. It’s a gift from You dear Lord. Help all of my leader friends and me to remember “IT.” Amen
