PEACEMAKERS

S. O. A. P

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Jeremiah 29:7

Also seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers you too will prosper.

O-bservation:

Jeremiah, the Prophet over Israel at the time of their exile in Babylon, told the people: don’t be afraid of your oppressors and the great city into which you have been exiled. Instead, embrace the city. Settle there and marry and have a family in the city. Pray for the peace of the city. If it prospers, even you as a foreign exile will also prosper.

A-pplication:

In 1994, during a 40-day fast, the Lord used the first part of this letter of Jeremiah to His people as a mandate for my personal mission for the rest of my life. I interpreted this Word from the Lord to say that instead of running to the suburbs in fear of the “Big Cities,” I was to pray for and embrace the “Big Cities” of the world and in particular my own country. That passion eventually led us to Miami in 1998. At every point when fear would surface, my wife and I would remember the Word of the Lord from Jeremiah to us. That Word was that we were called to seek the peace of the city and prosperity over the city. That being said, we are no different than any other believer. We have all been called not to Run but to Stay and be what the “Big City” needs … “PEACEMAKERS.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Today I thank You that You have shown me that I don’t need to know a whole lot in order to be the person You have called me to be. “A PEACEMAKER.” Amen
