Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
Psalm 118:5
When hard pressed I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place.
O-bservation:
Evidently, the Greatest King in Israel’s history sensed that his life was slowly closing in on him, to the point that he “Cried Out” to the Lord. As in maybe … “Oh God I can’t take it anymore. I feel boxed in, I’m losing it!” He says God heard him and made him feel, emotionally, like he was living in a “Spacious Place.” Probably like an emotional respite “Without Walls.”
A-pplication:
Have you ever been sitting in an Open Field or a Huge Warehouse or an Empty Ballpark and had the feeling that you were surrounded by four walls closing quickly in on you? David called it being “Hard Pressed.” Pressure from every side was squeezing in on him. He was the King, and where he lived there were Big Open Spaces. Especially the Judean hillsides, where the doldrums seem to continue on endlessly. And still David felt “Walled In” emotionally. He felt like he couldn’t breathe. He cried to God in despair and he immediately no longer just saw the Big Open Spaces, he felt the Big Open Spaces. I believe it is God’s desire that you live emotionally “Without Walls.” If you, like David, are feeling kind of “Hard Pressed,” why not just “Cry Out to God.” And soon you will say … “Oh look, a Big Open Space … I can FEEL it.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I can see the “Big Spacious Place” before me, but I still feel the walls closing in. Please let me FEEL emotionally what I can SEE physically. Amen
