Our Daily Commitment
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Luke 23:46
Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.
O-bservation:
St. Luke records the last words of Christ as he heard them. Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Father into your hands I commit my spirit.” This was Jesus’ way of saying, “I am not ready for my entrance back into heaven.” Of course, He would have to die, which happened immediately after this statement. And we believe He woke up in the corridors of hell for three days where He took the key of death, and then He rose on the third day.
A-pplication:
As I reread this passage this AM, I thought to myself: that’s the way I should end each day. Just before falling off to sleep, I think it would be appropriate that we would make it “Our Daily Commitment.” In other words, just before we go into our daily routine of falling into a coma (aka sleep), we would say, “Father Into Your Hands I Commit My Spirit.” Why do I say this? Well, for one, we have NO promise of tomorrow. Certainly, if we did this, we would ask the Lord to cleanse us from anything He may not be pleased within us, and by all means, I guarantee you that we would all sleep better after that. We’d wake up full of hope and promise because He gave us another day, instead of laboring through the day wondering what to do next. It’s just a thought, but I think it’s a good thought. So why don’t you and I make it “Our Daily Commitment.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Since I’m going to end my day with this thought, I guess I’ll start my day with it as well. “Father, Into Thy Hands I Commit My Spirit. Amen
