Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Luke 22:43

An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.

O-bservation:

This is one of the most desperate stories in all of the Bible. Jesus, the Son of God, was wrestling with the idea of the crucifixion He would suffer in the next twenty-four hours. It became so intense that Jesus cried out and said, “Father, if there is any way possible for me to get out of this, please I pray!” Then he said, “Nevertheless, not my will, but your will be done.” Then the Bible says an angel of the Lord came and strengthened Jesus.

A-pplication:

At Trinity Church here in Miami, Florida, we have celebrated the three major Jewish feasts days, with teachings and offerings, for the past seventeen years. This event took place during one of those major feast days, known as Passover. Throughout Scripture, the same Passover Angel that wrought havoc on the Egyptians on the first Passover often shows up in the Old and New Testaments. On the Eve of Passover, when He was scheduled in heaven to die for humankind’s sins, His human side was failing him. He cried out to his Father in heaven, and the Passover Angel was dispatched to strengthen Him. Jesus, who was God in the flesh, was not only strengthened. He was able to finish his mission on the cross. I’m pretty sure that if an Angel could strengthen God, “Maybe An Angel Could Help You Too!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

When I think of the hundreds and hundreds of times in my six decades of living that I’ve cried out to you and you have strengthened me, I think that certainly more than once you used an Angel. I’ve come to count on your healing and delivering and saving. Even if it’s with the help of an Angel! Amen
