The Numbering Challenge

S. O. A. P.

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

Psalm 90:12

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

In this prayer of King David, he asks God to help us number our days in order to gain wisdom through the process.

I don’t think David in any way believed that we are GUARANTEED a certain number of days on the earth. Although he did make a general statement two versus earlier by saying we usually live to be 70 and sometimes 80 if our strength holds out (v. 10). I say that because we are not promised tomorrow (Prov. 27:1). But, let’s say we had the promise of a long life. Someone recently said to me that our first 30 years should be spent gaining all the knowledge possible. Our second 30 years—from 31 to 60—should be spent building a strong foundation of support. Our last 30 years—61 to 90—should be spent “Changing The World!” Perhaps that’s what David was speaking of when he asked God to help us number our days in order to gain wisdom. On the other hand, he may have simply meant it is important to … “MAKE EACH DAY COUNT!” Maximize every second of your day today. In other words, numbering our days may mean living this day as though it were our last. Either way you win. But it’s a double win if you interpret it both. So here’s “The Numbering Challenge.” Live today like it’s your last … but plan like you have thousands more. If you do, “Wisdom Is Yours!”

I want You to help me maximize today. Help me use it to fuel my future! Amen
