Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
Mark 3:35
Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.
O-bservation:
Jesus had just gone through a rough patch of rejection, where even his own family had accused him of being … “Out Of His Mind” (v. 21). Someone told Jesus that His mother and brothers were outside waiting for him. Jesus responded by saying, “Whoever does the will of God is my brother, my sister, and my mother.”
A-pplication:
All of us have some kind of biological family. Of course none of us had anything to do with that at all. One of our Lord’s commands was that we are to HONOR our father and mother here on earth. And of course this includes loving all of our family members as well. But what Jesus is saying in this passage is that we also have a “Family of Choice.” If we choose people to connect with who are people of “Like Minded Faith,” they in turn become our “Other Family.” Even if one’s earthly family has not been all that they would hope they could be that does not preclude any of us from loving them anyway. But what you may lack in your “Birth Family” you can make up for in your “Faith Family.” Whatever you’re going through today, don’t get discouraged. God has a “Family Of Faith” already picked out for YOU. Open up, reach out, and own it. You can call them “My Family of Choice.”
P-rayer:
I thank You for my amazing biological family. I also thank You for “My Family of Choice.” I have so many brothers and sisters in the faith. I love them all. Amen
