Nothing or Something?

S. O. A. P

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

John 15:5

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

O-bservation:

Jesus told His disciples in this passage of scripture that there has to be a power source for all productivity. Certainly branches decorate a vine and look nice, but a branch by itself bears no fruit and withers and dies immediately. The branch only has life, has beauty, and bears fruit because it is connected to the vine. Jesus said, “I am your Power Source. Apart from Me you can do NOTHING.”

A-pplication:

Every one of us has a gift. The more connected to Jesus we are, the more evident our gifts become. The brighter our gifts shine. People are attracted to the gift and don’t always know why. The secret is in our source. Cut us off from our source and the gift fades, like an aging movie star whose facelifts have now connected at the back of his head. Everyone else can see that something has gone seriously sideways. It’s hard to keep pasting dead leaves on to a dead branch and spray-painting them green. Disconnected from the vine, the branch is nothing. Dead people branches have to get connected to the True Vine … “Jesus” … in order to be SOMETHING, because apart from Jesus we are NOTHING.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I realize that anything bright and shiny in my life comes from being connected to my life source. I know I am SOMETHING because I’m connected to YOU. Amen
