S-cripture:
Jeremiah 10:24
Discipline me, Lord, but only in good measure – not in your anger, or you will reduce me to nothing.
O-bservation:
This is the prayer of Jeremiah. Judah was about to experience God’s wrath and Jeremiah knew it. He then speaks for his nation … in particular the “Righteous Folks” … and says, “Dear Lord we need discipline, but please discipline us according to what we can bear and not what we deserve. If you give us what we deserve there will be nothing left of us.”
A-pplication:
As I read this prayer of Jeremiah this morning, I believe it’s a prayer that I should keep on my heart at all times. The reason I say that is because I’m reminded of the words of King Solomon, who said, “Because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in” (Prov. 3:12). I remember my Father disciplining me as a boy growing up, but I had no doubt that of every man living on this planet NO MAN loved me more than my Dad. As much as I disliked it at the time, I have cherished his discipline for all time. When you and I ask our Heavenly Father to discipline us because we know he loves us it’s really … “A Prayer For Our Own GOOD.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’m open for whatever You have for me today. If it’s discipline I need then I’m Yours. I know You will only give me what I truly need because You love me. Amen
