No SPREAD, No BREAD!
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Acts 6:7
So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.
O-bservation:
St. Luke writes to say that after the Apostles handed off the daily duties of church leadership to the newly organized deacons, the gospel of Jesus SPREAD. The number of disciples grew rapidly, and Jewish priests began coming over to Jesus’ side as well. As this happened, people who were part of the Christian faith gave more of their finances to fund the SPREADING of the Gospel.
A-pplication:
When I was a kid growing up, we used to call money BREAD. We’d say, “How much BREAD does your dad make?” Or “Hey man, you got any BREAD for lunch? I’ll pay you back?” Money was the means to eat. So in our minds, it took BREAD to buy BREAD. As a Christian minister, I can tell you that it’s hard to SPREAD the gospel without the anointing and money. We read in Acts 4 that people pooled their money so others could hear about the gospel. They would sell their properties (as did Barnabus) and come and lay it at the apostles’ feet. They were unusually generous at the beginning of the Early Church. Whenever I see a great work for the Lord, I also see and hear of unusual generosity by those who are part of the work. But people don’t give to a dead work. They only give to SPREAD the Good News. I guess you could say, “No SPREAD, No BREAD!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
It has always been and forever shall be my desire to SPREAD your Good News to all I meet. I give you my word, even if the money doesn’t come in, I’ll still be about my Father’s business. Amen
