Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
2 Corinthians 10:18
For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.
O-bservation:
The Apostle told us what every true “Follower of Jesus” should already know. We don’t live our lives for the applause of men, but for the applause of only One. His name is Jesus. If we fail to receive His commendation then no other commendation is worth pursuing.
A-pplication:
No one can deny that it feels good to be commended, approved, or applauded by one’s fellow humans. I’ll be the first to admit … I’d rather someone say, “I like you and think you’re a wonderful person,” than for them to say … “You’re an idiot!” Here’s the rub. When we begin to play for man’s applause, character is challenged and scruples are in danger of being tossed out the window. The Bible says, “People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). Obviously man’s priorities are nowhere near that of “Almighty God.” But the “Almighty” has set the game plan. His rules or lose. On the other hand, the word also says to give honor where honor is due (Romans 13:7). Here’s where we as humans cannot fail. When we truly honor one another, “The Need For Commendation” is met.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for the opportunity to live completely for your approval. I ask this AM that You will help me honor my fellow man. Everyone needs encouragement, and I want to be that encourager. Amen
