Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Psalm 106:35
But they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs.
O-bservation:
King David recounts Israel’s history of “Rising and “Falling” in their relationship with God. On one such occasion, and there were many, they began to “MINGLE” with the people of the country they had been called to dominate. When they began to “MINGLE” with foreign people of other gods and ways of worship, they did not encourage them to accept their God and customs, instead they (Israel) adopted the practices of the foreigners.
A-pplication:
The word “MINGLE” means: “To become mixed, blended, or united.” In the Old Testament, no matter how unfair or unjust it may appear to we mortals, God would often have His people (Israel) destroy everyone they conquered! In no way did God want His people to “MINGLE” with the people they had conquered. In Deuteronomy 7, God told Israel not to marry outside of the house of Israel, because the Israelites would not convert the foreign people to their ways, instead the opposite would happen. In the New Testament, Jesus said in Luke 19:13, “Occupy till I come.” This has been translated as … “Set up shop and take over till I get back.” In other words, never has God wanted us to MIX with the system of the world! Instead, God has called us to lead people out of their darkness and into His marvelous light of Salvation. Anything less has to do with “MINGLING.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
As I move into the “Marketplace” to do business today, may I remember that my call is to introduce people to You. Only when people encounter You, will they ever really get it. Amen
