The Metamorphosis of Faith

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Matthew 28:17

When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.

O-bservation:

After Jesus’ resurrection, He appeared to His Disciples. In each of the four Gospels, there was an initial response in all of them of Awe, but also of “DOUBT.” In the book of Mark, Jesus scolded them for their lack of faith. But here in Matthew, He assured them of their mission and told them He would always be with them.

A-pplication:

Most of the eleven disciples mentioned here (Judas Iscariot committed suicide) ended up dying as martyrs, and certainly all of them suffered for Jesus. So how did they move from DOUBT to Martyrdom? I believe it had to do with … “The Metamorphosis of Faith.” If a butterfly begins as a caterpillar, then Faith has its origins in Doubt. Faith has to do with Believing. Because of the fact we are all born into Sin, we are also born into Doubt. Little kids are forever saying, “No!” “Show me!” and “How does that work?” But in time and through experience they begin to Believe that they could Teach, or Practice Medicine, or Build Race Cars. Even though the Disciples had watched Jesus for three years and had been at the crucifixion, they Doubted when they saw Him risen. However, in time and by the power of the Holy Spirit, Doubt MORPHED into Faith. So take heart, there’s hope for you and me.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

This AM I am coming to You with a familiar line … “Lord I believe, help my unbelief!” Amen
