Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Kings 12:7
They replied, “If today you will be a servant to these people and serve them and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your servants.”
O-bservation:
Solomon had died and his son Rehoboam had taken his place. Another leader named Jeroboam had rebelled against Solomon and had escaped to Egypt. Now Jeroboam returned from Egypt to Israel upon Solomon’s demise. The people of Israel wanted to make Rehoboam king, but first ask him to lighten the load his father Solomon had put on them. He said, “Give me three days to consider your request.” When Rehoboam asked the Elders of Israel what they thought, they said, “If you will just serve these people and give them a favorable answer they will serve you forever.” But instead the young man rejected the word of the Elders and said, “I’ll make it harder on Israel than my Father did.”
A-pplication:
Right after this, Jeroboam split Israel off of Judah and the two were divided for many years. Rehoboam made the mistake that too many young leaders make. He thought that “Titles” were the key to effective leadership. But when it comes to leadership, Actions speak louder than Words or Titles. For a leader to think that it’s about him or her means they’re defeated already. It’s always about the service you’re willing to give to others. Always … “Do The Loving Thing.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank You that You showed me as a young man that Leadership is always about Serving and doing the “Loving Thing.” Amen
