When Jesus Calls Your Name

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

John 20:16a

Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

O-bservation:

This, of course, is the famous story of Mary Magdalene at the tomb of Jesus on the morning of His resurrection. Obviously she was somewhat shocked because His body was gone. As she wept, Jesus came behind her and asked her why she was weeping. She thought He was the gardener and said to Him, “Where have you taken him?” Then Jesus said her name … “Mary.” Immediately she knew it was Jesus.

A-pplication:

This is the same woman Jesus had delivered seven demon spirits from (Lk. 8). In fact, from that moment on she was staunchly committed to Jesus. It hadn’t really cost Mary anything at that point to follow Jesus. I mean she had been set free from her bondage to demonic spirits and now lived a life of peaceful holiness as a “Jesus Follower.” But she was there at the cross when others left, and she was the first at the tomb to anoint His body on the morning of the Resurrection. Jesus, on the other hand, had done it all. He had left heaven’s splendor and had walked this dirty primitive earth for 33 years. Jesus was all He said He was, and for that He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. He was brutalized, then nailed to a cross. He died, He was resurrected … and … “He Remembered Her NAME.” Sometimes the smallest details in history are the biggest game changers for the individual. Whatever you think you’ve gone through as a “Follower of Jesus” will soon be forgotten … “When Jesus Calls Your NAME!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

This AM, I can’t hear You call my name out loud, but I hear You calling me deep inside of me. I’m here for You, my Lord. I’m in, all in! Amen

It’s all grace. Nothing sweeter than knowing the Creator of the universe calls me by name. Be still…for God whispers and the world is loud.
