It Started With Dad

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Luke 3:22

And the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

Luke recollects the time when Jesus, just before His public ministry began, came to His cousin John the Baptist to be baptized. When John accomplished Jesus’ request, immediately the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus in the form of a dove, and then the Father from heaven said, “This is my son whom I love; in Him I am well pleased.”

If anyone asks the question, “What can you attribute Jesus’ unparalleled success to?” The answer must include, “It Started With Dad.” Throughout the Gospels, Jesus was quick to remind us that He was on a mission from His Father. Earlier in this book, when Jesus was only 12, His parents forgot Him in Jerusalem on their way back to Nazareth. When they found Him, they scolded Him, and Jesus was quick to say, “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” Another translation says, “about my Father’s business? (Luke 2:49b). Later, Jesus threw the “money changers” out of the temple and said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” (Jn. 2:16). Still later, Jesus, in His priestly prayer to His Father, said, “As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world” (John 17:18). He was speaking of His disciples. Once again, all of these passages are proof that “It Started With Dad.” Our mission here on earth as Jesus Followers must always begin with the mission of God. That mission is to reach people no matter the cost, with the good news of the gospel. It’s our Heavenly Father’s mission. “It Starts With Dad.”

Dear Jesus,

I’m grateful this AM that You didn’t place me on this planet for nothing. Instead, You placed me here to be on mission. I will live and breathe and digest that mission, as long as You give me life. Amen
