Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Matthew 23:5a
Everything they do is done for people to see.
O-bservation:
Jesus’ constant nemeses while He ministered on earth were the Pharisees. These “Law Keepers” were self appointed judges. They kept watch over their man-made rules and regulations, which helped keep the people of Israel slaves to rules that were additions to the “Law of Moses” given by God on Mt. Sinai. Jesus said of them, “They live in order to be seen by people.”
A-pplication:
When referring to the Pharisees, Jesus might as well have said to them … “Here’s Looking At You!” It’s hard to believe these Pharisees would jam the entire law, written by scribes in microscopic letters on pieces of one inch squared parchment paper, into a leather box and strap it to their foreheads in order for people to see that they were … are you ready? … “Following The Law!” The issue was to BE SEEN. The teachings of Jesus were so different. When it came to giving to the poor, Jesus said, “Don’t let your right hand know what your left hand is doing” (Matt. 6:3). In other words, keep it to yourself. Let the Lord see in quiet what you’re doing. Don’t play to the applause of men. Today, instead of listening for … “Here’s Looking At You,” let’s join together to say with the Apostle … “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus!” (Heb. 12:2).
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Today, with Your help, I will refocus my eyes off of my fellow man and onto You. I know if my eyes are on You, I’ll get home safe. Amen
