Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Titus 3:5
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
O-bservation:
St. Paul wrote to a ministry friend named Titus and told him that when Jesus first changed us, it wasn’t because of anything you and I had done to earn it. Instead, Jesus changed us through the miracle of His mercy and the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. You could almost say that for us to be thoroughly cleansed from sin, we needed a “Heart Washing.”
A-pplication:
I can remember times in my life when I would be filthy, either through hard outdoor work in the mud or maybe inclement weather. I would walk towards the front door of the house, and before I could get in the house, Robyn would make me undress outside the door and give me a towel and say, “Into the shower with you.” It’s one thing to be washed on the outside so that the clean clothes you put on are a clean match for a clean body. But it’s another thing entirely when one is endeavoring to put the truth of God’s word into a filthy heart and mind. That’s why what needs to happen to all of us to be accepted is this gift from God called salvation unto eternal life. Once it happens, Jesus does the rest. Nothing we could do can ever make this happen EXCEPT to ACCEPT His cleansing. When it happens, one feels clean on the inside, no matter how they look or smell on the outside. In fact, that always happens with Jesus after one of His “Heart Washings.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Before I leave the door this AM, I want to pause and say a huge THANK YOU for the “Heart Washing” You’ve given me. I am clean and fresh on the inside because of Your divine Grace. Amen
