Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Corinthians 14:20
Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.
O-bservation:
The Early Church at Corinth was battling what every church faces today—”Childlike thinking.” That includes attitude stuff, jealousy stuff, and competition stuff, just to name a few. God calls that kind of thinking “Kid Stuff.” When it comes to thinking about and experiencing evil, God really wants us to be like KIDS who know nothing about sin. But all other thoughts should be “Grown Up Thoughts.”
A-pplication:
I was raised in church, and for that I am very grateful. I saw the folks who had “Grown Up Thoughts,” and the “Grown Ups” who had “Kid Thoughts.” The “Kid Thoughts People” think like this: “How come I didn’t get the lead part in the play? Why didn’t they ask me to be a Deacon? Why haven’t I been asked to play the drums?” “Grown Up Thoughts People” think like this: “How can we raise more money to buy another bus to bus kids to church? How can we love and care for the disenfranchised in our community? I want God to use me to win and disciple three people for JESUS this year.” When “Grown Ups” think like kids, they end up acting like kids. That hurts the work of JESUS. The best way to serve Jesus is with … “Grown Up Thoughts.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help me today to elevate my thinking. Often times I feel my old childhood way of doing things starting to pull on me. Help me think like a Grown-Up, since that’s what I am. Amen
