Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Zechariah 13:1
On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.
O-bservation:
In the previous chapter, the Prophet speaks of the future sacrifice of Jesus by death on a cross in order to produce an everlasting Grace for all of Jerusalem. Here in this verse he says that the Grace of God will act as a “Fountain,” pouring forth cleansing from sin and impurity. Of course this “Fountain” is a reminder of the pierced side of Jesus from which flowed Blood and Water.
A-pplication:
Naturally there is a “Nasty” and despicable side to the Christian faith we profess. When you speak of blood, crosses, death, and tombs it is not as lovely as a picturesque church in a country grove. But that same “Little Church” has its roots in that “Nasty Side.” And even though Jesus died for His beloved Jewish people, His sacrifice enabled all of us outside the biological Jewish family to inherit His grace. Jesus’ friend John said, “He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:11-12). I’m so thankful for … “The Fountain.” Even for one who was formerly an Outcast (Gentile). His Sacrifice, His Blood, His Grace saved even me.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I am reminded of Your pierced side from which flowed Your precious blood (like a Fountain)Â to cover my sins and give me new life. Oh how thankful I am today. Amen
