Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Ruth 1:16
But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”
O-bservation:
Ruth’s mother-in-law, Naomi, had moved to Moab with her husband and two sons because of the famine in Israel. While living in Moab, Naomi’s husband and two sons died. She was left with two daughters-in-law, who were heathen by Jewish standards. When Naomi decided to move back to Israel, broke and hopeless, one of her daughters-in-law, Ruth, asked Naomi if she could go with her. In fact she said, “Don’t tell me to leave you, I will do whatever you want me to do.”
A-pplication:
Ruth, in time, became a foremother of Jesus Christ! This story reminds me of what’s happening right here and now all around us. We who are “Followers of Jesus” are a part of a society that is desperately looking for what is REAL. They’re looking for something they can depend on. In fact, that SOMETHING is actually SOMEONE! His name is Jesus. Oftentimes, I’m guilty of sending people away because I don’t think I have much to offer them. However, the Jesus in me keeps pulling so hard on the very ones I’m sending away that I can see in their eyes that they’re saying to me … “Don’t Ask Me To Leave.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
May I never forget that because I have You, I have the answer to all Human Need. Help me to never send them away. Amen
