Dad’s Coming Home

S. O. A. P

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Ezekiel 34:15

I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the sovereign Lord.

O-bservation:

Earlier, in Ezekiel 22:30, The Lord said He had looked all over Israel to find someone who would “Stand In the Gap” between Him and the people of Israel, to represent each to the other (i.e.: Moses or Abraham), but He couldn’t find anyone. God used the metaphor of the Shepherd to the Sheep to describe the Spiritual Leader’s care for the people of Israel, and God found it to be so deplorable that He himself said, “I’m taking over the Shepherding of my own people. I’ll help them find rest.”

A-pplication:

I remember as a young boy if I got “out of line” with my Mother she would say … “Dad’s Coming Home” BOOM! That was a killer line. I knew she would fill him in on the nonsense I’d been creating in his absence and that would justify a penalty for my poor behavior. Leadership is all about delegated authority and working through layers of the leader’s representatives in order to see a job accomplished. However, there are times when the best “Leader of Leaders” must step in and deal with a situation personally. The Pastoral Leadership during Ezekiel’s time had been so poor and ineffective that the “God of the Universe” let His people know … “Dads Coming Home.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Today, with Your help, I choose to live in such a way that You can tend to other business You have. I do not want to be the cause of You having to leave what You’re doing to “Tend To Me.” Love You Dad! 🙂 Amen
