Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
John 18:40a
They shouted back, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas!”
O-bservation:
Many people are familiar with the story of Jesus standing before Pilate for sentencing. Pilate, the Roman Governor of Judea, couldn’t find fault with Jesus. He offered the people of Jerusalem a choice between releasing either Jesus or a murderer and insurrectionist named Barabbas. Immediately, and with force, the people responded, “We choose Barabbas to be released.” And history records the fact that Barabbas the rioter was set free and Jesus the Son of God was crucified.
A-pplication:
All of life has to do with this one word … “CHOICES.” What Should I do with my life? That requires a Choice. What University should I attend? That requires a Choice. Who should I marry? That requires a Choice. What job offer should I accept? Once again, that requires a Choice. The Choice one makes in each instance will determine their success or failure in that particular category. Probably the biggest CHOICE offered to every human is … “Who or What shall I serve?” If you Choose job, people, finances, fun, partying, or anything having to do with “ME FIRST” over Jesus, disappointment, despair, and discouragement are sure to follow. Governor Pilate’s wife knew her husband had messed up, and he is remembered in infamy. So is Barabbas and all the others in the story who chose “ME FIRST.” The people honored in history, besides Jesus, were His Disciples and others, like the three Marys at the cross. They CHOSE Jesus over all other pursuits. Today there still remains a choice. “Who Do You Choose?”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM I still and always will CHOOSE You! What other Choice do I have, really? Amen
