The Best Praise

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Proverbs 27:2

Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.

O-bservation:

Indeed this is WISDOM speaking. Don’t praise yourself. Instead let someone else speak unprovoked about how wonderful your many accomplishments really are.

A-pplication:

It’s always better if you are the “Guest of Honor” to have someone else introduce you. When they talk about how great you are, no one will think that you sent the host your own biographical sketch to read. Instead everyone will think that everyone else in the room knows all of this wonderful stuff about you except for them. They will actually wonder why they haven’t already known of your greatness. Isn’t that better than going up to the lectern and telling everyone how fabulous you are? You KNOW it is!! When any of us try and “Toot Our Own Horn,” it all sounds like blah, blah, blah and furthermore, blah, blah, and not only that, but blah, blah, blah. On the other hand “The Best Praise” comes from friends and family who know you well, including all of your flaws, and yet still truly admire your good works and humble living. Not only that, but they’re willing to go on record in praise of you. That’s much better than your own blah, blah, blah, self praise. I think we’re all with Solomon on this one; we want … “The Best Praise.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Ultimately we are all called to Praise and Worship You alone. And yet You have told us in Your Word to “Give honor to whom honor is due.” I will refrain from Self Praise, but will honor my Brothers and Sisters who have earned heaven’s approval. Amen
