S-cripture:
Daniel 2:27, 28a
Daniel replied, No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, (28a) but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.
O-bservation:
At the top of this chapter, in verse one, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had a “Bad Dream” that was heaven sent. It left him sleepless and troubled. He sought help from his own demon-possessed wisemen, but couldn’t get relief in his spirit. Finally Daniel, one of the servants from Israel, was brought to the king in order to interpret the Kings dream. Daniel said he couldn’t, but that “There Was a God in Heaven” who could. Daniel revealed the answer to the King’s dream and the king was relieved.
A-pplication:
As “Followers of Jesus,” we are living in a society that is filled with “Bad Dreams.” I meet people every day who are troubled and they don’t know why. When you live with a “Bad Dream” it’s tough to sleep at night. It’s tough to work with energy. It’s tough to keep your mind on one thing for very long. It’s tough to love your family fervently. It’s tough to have a feel for where you would like your life to go. It’s Just TOUGH. My mission and the mission of all “Jesus Followers” is to be the answer for people who are troubled. It’s to let them know there is a God in heaven who can help them. We’re not called to “Bad Dreams” … we’re called to “Dream Big” and help others out of their “Nightmares. It’s time to call a moratorium on “Bad Dreams.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Yes I have had a “Bad Dream” or two in my life, but I’ve never lived a continual nightmare. Thanks to You. Each time You woke me up in time to realize it was just a dream, time for breakfast. Amen
