Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Joshua 14:11
I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.
O-bservation:
These are the words of Caleb, who was 85 years old when he went to claim the land Moses had promised him 45 years earlier! He was making this claim to his old friend Joshua, who had become the leader of Israel after the death of Moses. He was adamant in his speech to Joshua that he was just as strong at the age of 85 as he had been at the age of 40!
A-pplication:
I don’t think Joshua, or anyone who heard Caleb speak that day, believed him. But no one was going to challenge him and risk finding out the real answer. The point is, you CAN’T physically be as strong at the age of 85 as you are at the age of 40. Maybe Caleb was the one exception in a list of billions who went before him and came after him, but I doubt it. Bones and muscle mass diminish through the years, even for the most athletic of people. Here’s another good point. “You Are What You Believe You Are!” The great fighter Mohammed Ali used to call himself “The Greatest.” Most folks didn’t believe it, but they called him that anyway. Why? Because HE believed it! If you believe something intensely enough, there will always be those who leave what they believe to follow you. Or at least they’ll give in to your wishes. That’s certainly what happened the day Caleb said to Joshua, “Give me this inheritance God promised me!” And Joshua gave it to him. Joshua didn’t want to argue with the man who lived by this one simple statement: “You Are What You Believe You Are!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I don’t want to take a long time to list what I believe I am. But this AM, I do want to give thanks and proclaim to everyone I meet … “I am the righteousness of God in Christ!” Amen
