Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
James 2:24
You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.
O-bservation:
The Apostle James had been teaching that Faith without Works is Dead. Throughout this chapter, that was his theme. Then he made a powerful statement that metaphorically emphasized his original point. He said a person is considered righteous by what they do, not by their faith alone.
A-pplication:
I’ve known people who claimed to have faith in Christ but lived like the devil. Somewhere there must be an identification with Christ that separates the wheat from the tares, so to speak. I’ve talked to people through the years and asked them why they turned from their life of sin and rebellion and instead followed Christ. They said to me, “My best friend accepted Jesus before I did, and there was such an amazing change in his life for the good that I wanted to follow what he had done and accept Christ as well.” I’ve heard something close to that story over and over again. They didn’t just hear a man or woman’s confession; they also witnessed a real change in a person’s life who had decided to follow Jesus. You can say what you want, but real change has to do with what a person DOES. That’s why James taught us that “Works Count.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
As I ponder the Apostle James’ words this AM, I’m also thinking of the time St. Paul said to WORK out our own salvation with fear and trembling. Help me to DO Your will again today, I ask. Amen
