Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
“It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be a house of prayer’; but you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’”
As Jesus entered the Temple during the week of the “Passion,” He quickly threw the money changers out of the Temple. He said they had made it into something it wasn’t designed to be. He said, “Instead of My House being a House of Prayer, you have turned it into a den of thieves.” Of course He was speaking of the “money changers.”
I don’t personally think this passage has to do with selling books in the lobby of a church. Instead I think Jesus was speaking to what the church had become. Most of us who lead people to Jesus and worship and service understand there is a business side and a ministry side to the work of the Lord. There comes a real challenge when one of these overtakes the other. In this case, the business side of religion had overwhelmed the ministry side of the church. When business and the desire for personal control on the part of leaders denies the work of Jesus in a person’s life, there will be consequences. “Church Work” is about business and gardening and daily logistics. “The Work Of The Church” is to lead people to Jesus and into service to Him and His people!
This AM, I’m in need of You like never before. I don’t want to turn into a business MONGER, and I don’t want to be a CONTROLLER. Help me fall under the control of Your will, and Word, again today! Amen
