Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Genesis 48:2
When Jacob was told, “Your son Joseph has come to you,” Israel rallied his strength and sat up on the bed.
O-bservation:
Jacob was old and had fallen ill. It was obvious that his life was going to close, and perhaps he was even drifting in and out of consciousness just before the end. His associates told him his son Joseph had come to see him. The scripture says that Israel rallied his strength and sat up in bed to meet him.
A-pplication:
It’s amazing that in this one verse this patriarch is called by both of his names: Jacob, the name his parents gave him, and Israel which God gave him. Israel means “Triumphant With God!” When things are at their worst, remember that you have been chosen by God and then rally yourself! Just before my father’s death, he had been in a coma for two days. My sister called crying and said, “Rich, I think Dad is gone!” I said “Put the phone to his ear.” When she did, I said, “Dad!” Joni gasped as Dad rallied himself and said, “Rich is that you?” A couple of days later he passed. Those were his final words. The pull of love on a father from his children can literally WILL him to respond. Israel rallied in time to bless all of his children, then died. Today, please remember that you and I serve a “Heavenly Father” who never needs to be rallied. He’s alert to your every cry. That’s why we call it … “The Love Of The Father.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
How thankful I am this AM that You never sleep or slumber. You’re never tired or weak. You never have to rally yourself, EVER! Thank You that You are listening for my call. I’m letting You know, I’m calling You once again! Amen
