Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
Psalm 7:10
My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart.
O-bservation:
This chapter is filled with King David pleading with God for help. In the final analysis he affirms the fact that God is his Shield (PROTECTOR), and that He saves the “Upright in Heart.” He is in such a bad place that you can almost hear David thinking out loud … “My heart IS upright … At least … I Want To DO Right!”
A-pplication:
I don’t know if you’re like me, but sometimes I am in such a tough place in my life that I start reminding God of all the “Good Stuff” I’ve done. I reason that based upon my “Upright Heart,” He will be “MY” Shield (PROTECTOR) against all those who are out to get me. But anytime we use our own righteousness as a means of deserving “Divine Intervention,” we’re really treading a slippery slope. In no way am I suggesting that David thought he deserved God’s help based upon his own righteousness. David was in trouble. I’ve been in trouble. Trouble sometimes forces our hand. But always remember, God is our Father! He is ready to help YOU right now. But instead of approaching him with … “I am righteous!” … maybe it’s better to say … “I Want To Do Right, Oh God, please help me!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
When I’m in trouble, I’m usually tempted to remind You of all the good stuff I’ve done so You will help me. But today I’m reminded that You want to help me because I’m Your kid. Amen
