To The Next Generation

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Kings 2:2
“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man.”
O-bservation:
Here, King David told his son Solomon that he was near death. His advice to the young man—remember, Solomon was only 20 years old when he took over for his father—was to simply “Be Strong, Act Like A Man.” That was David’s directive, “To The Next Generation.”
A-pplication:
For me, when I consider this verse, I always question what makes a man a man besides his gender at birth, and what if the direction “To The Next Generation” is to a woman? First, the qualities that help a man act like a man include love, empathy, and moral courage. That man must love people because if he doesn’t in time he will come to ruin. He must be able to walk in another person’s shoes so as to understand what that person is going through. Also, that man must possess moral courage. He must be determined to do right in the face of pressure no matter what. The more I think about these virtues that make a man a man, the more I always decide that these same virtues make a woman a woman. The word “STRONG” in this passage is what one must be to LOVE, EMPATHIZE, and operate with MORAL COURAGE. So in my humble opinion, Solomon could have been speaking to a son or daughter. The question is, are we spreading this message “To The Next Generation?”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help me be a man who is strong and operates in Love, Empathy, and Moral Courage. Help me pass along these same character virtues, “To The Next Generation.” Amen
