Workin Or Just Talkin?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Proverbs 14:23 All hard work brings a profit. But mere talk leads only to poverty.

O-bservation:

The wise man Solomon, at the time of this writing, was building the Temple in Jerusalem for "Almighty God." Over 180,000 laborers were used for this massive seven-year undertaking. Solomon knew first hand what "Hard Work" could produce.

A-pplication:

I've often heard the line used ... "He TALKS a good game." This is a line used to describe a person who is good at promoting their ideas or desired business plan, but who can't produce on their promises. "Workin Or Just Talkin?" That's always been the question. I drive through the streets of my city during the workweek and often see lots of people on the streets. Many of them are just "Hanging Out," TALKIN. They've got visions and dreams and ideas. But every dream, vision, and idea has to have a place from which to launch. That place is called WORK! Work brings discipline, character, and an understanding of authority. All of these are essential for building a great life, family, business, or church. WORK! Every great "Work Place" has a series of designated "break times," during the workday. These times are set aside for "TALKIN." But then ... "Back To Work!" Just TALKIN brings poverty but WORKIN brings profit. It's your decision today.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Thank You for the gift of WORK. I don't want to be a Good Talker, I really want to be a GREAT WORKER! Help Me! Amen

Always Stay Ahead Of The Game

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Samuel 18:9 And from that time on Saul kept a close eye on David.

O-bservation:

This statement was made after David, King Saul's young warrior, was being lauded as the one who killed his "Tens of Thousands," while Saul, the King, only killed his "Thousands." Consequently, King Saul was left in a place of insecurity.

A-pplication:

The truth is that Saul waited TOO long to start watching out for potential successors who would try to supplant him. It started way back when King Saul had gotten into a pattern of disobeying God. I suppose you could say he was just lazy in doing the "Will of God," or half-hearted in following through with "God's Commands." He was a man who often took the easy way out vs. the more difficult way out. He was especially concerned about whether he looked good in the process. When self-promotion, self-sufficiency, and self-service become one's sole purpose, it puts that person way behind on God's timetable for Success and a Blessed Legacy. King Saul lived for the moment. His questions may have been something like this: "How do I look right now? What do people think of me right now?" His failure to produce a future vision for Israel was his demise. "Heavenly Vision" takes one's eyes off of oneself and puts them on people and the "Means" to help others. "Heavenly Vision" will help you to … "Always Stay Ahead Of The Game."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I asked today that my eyes would be lifted off of me and on to the future. Help me get my eyes on Your "Harvest Field," and just let me be one of Your workers please. Amen

Wait For It

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Habakkuk 2:3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.

O-bservation:

This was a prophecy that, at the time, even confused the Prophet. But in speaking of the end, and the future calamities of those who do not follow Jesus, he was absolutely correct. All there is to do is ... "Wait For It!"

A-pplication:

Now I'd like to do a 180 on you with this passage. What about you? What about your dreams, your visions, your desired outcomes? The truth is, the Bible tells us that God wants to give us the very desires of our heart if we put Him first (Ps. 37:4). In fact, why would God give you a vision if He didn't want you to have it? In order to have it, you'll have to put everything you have into achieving this dream. Long hours, long strategies, sacrifices, and willpower. However, if you're willing to do the heavy lifting God will do the part you can't do. Just "Wait For It!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I'm not giving up on my dreams! You have them, I'm going to strive to reach them, and then "Wait For It!" Amen

The Valley Of Vision

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Isaiah 22:1 A prophecy against the Valley of Vision: What troubles you now, that you have all gone up on the roofs?

O-bservation:

This is an unusual passage inasmuch as Jerusalem is built on a hill. Everyone from outside the walls of Jerusalem had to “Go Up,” to Jerusalem. But within the city of Jerusalem was a low place that historians tell us was near what was called “The Trolls.” It had the feel of a valley. It’s where many of the prophets lived. Because it was a valley, it was called “The Valley Of Vision,” because you could look up from this low place and see what others couldn’t. But in this case, Hosea knew that a foreign (most likely the Assyrians) army was preparing to lay a siege on Jerusalem. Instead of the people of Israel kneeling in sackcloth and ashes and weeping and asking God for help, they instead were, partying in wild revelry. (Vs 12,13) It was as if they knew they were going to die, so their thoughts must have been, let’s go out with a bang.

A-pplication:

Who are you in this story? Do you live the life of the man or woman of God who, because of your position, you can see what others can’t see? Or are you the one that sees there is no hope for you, and so you speak, and live as if there’s no reason to cry out to God because you’re going to lose anyway? Hosea would have been in the first crowd. He was in “The Valley Of Vision,” where he knew what was coming from the outside, but his view was of crazy people who had seen the enemy and had forgotten they had a God who loved them. They had forgotten that if they had repented and cried to him, he would have surely turned back the enemy. So Hosea was not afraid. His view was a view with a vision for the future, not the end. Sometimes it’s better to get off of the rooftops and down low in “The Valley Of Vision,” where you can really see what’s happening and fear no one but your God, Jehovah!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This morning from my own “Valley of Vision,” I have nothing and no one to fear but you, Lord. You are and have always been my God. Because of that, I’ll stick with a vision of you all day long! Amen

Vision Will Keep You Alive!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 45:28 And Israel said, “I'm convinced! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”

O-bservation:

This is the beginning of the conclusion to one of the most amazing stories in history. A young man sold into slavery rose through the ranks of prison life to be second in command of all of Egypt. Not only did he win, but he also caused the nation to be saved. Jacob, his father, had thought that his boy Joseph had died many years before. Now Jacob said at a very old age, “My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”

A-pplication:

Here’s what I believe. “Vision Will Keep You Alive!” Theologians believe Jacob was 91 when Joseph was born. It was approximately 39 years from the time Joseph was born until his father Jacob met the Pharaoh of Egypt. What happened in the meantime was unimaginable! Probably at the age of 17, because of his brothers’ jealousy of him, Joseph was sold into slavery, and his brothers told their father a wild animal had killed their brother. Broken though he was, Jacob never gave up hope. One day his sons came back from their trip to Egypt and said, “Dad, our brother Joseph is alive, and he’s the second in command of all of Egypt!” Not only did vision cause him to see his son and meet the Pharaoh at the age of 130, but Jacob lived another 17 years!! Whatever you do, get VISION! Because “Vision Will Keep You Alive!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM, I’m so glad You have given me a fresh vision for my future. I believe that You will keep me going until I finish the VISION You’ve given me! Amen
