Get Out Of The Middle!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Kings 18:21 Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing.

O-bservation:

Israel was under siege, but not to a foreign enemy. They were under siege to the Lord God of the Universe. God's Prophet, Elijah, had declared a drought three years earlier. It got so bad that the King was looking for a place where a spring had not dried up and the grass was green so that he could feed and water his animals. Israel's problem was that sometimes they wanted God and sometimes they wanted Baal. They were stuck in the middle. Elijah called together the prophets of Baal and the people of Israel and asked, "How long will you go back and forth between God and Baal? How long will you stay stuck in the middle?"

A-pplication:

A person or a nation who has lost their ability to make a decision is doomed. Those who would try and serve both God and this world will fail miserably. Families, Businesses, Universities, Governments, and in some cases even Churches, self-destruct over being stuck in the middle. The issue will always be, are you a "Follower of Jesus" or a "Follower of This World?" Just like in the day Elijah questioned these Prophets of Baal, I believe there is a sound from heaven even this AM asking you and I ... "How long will you waver between two opinions?" We can't put it off another day. It's time to decide. "Get Out of The Middle!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Once again this AM I fully commit myself to Your will and way. With Your help, I will always RUN from the middle into Your arms! Amen

There’s More Than You Think

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Acts 18:9-10 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.”

O-bservation:

St Paul was in Corinth with Christian friends named Aquila & Priscilla, and not long after, Silas and Timothy arrived. One day Paul had such a disagreement with Jewish leaders, that he finished his ministry to them and preached only to the gentiles in that area. God told Paul “Don’t worry Paul, keep preaching, because the people that I have in that city who are with you, just let me say, “There’s More Than You Think!”

A-pplication:

This passage reminds me of Elijah running from the wicked Queen Jezebel. When God reached out to Elijah, the prophet said, “I just want to die, because I’m the last one who believes in you.” God told Elijah, “I have 7,000 folks who have not bowed a knee to Baal.” Whatever war you’re facing today that you think you’re the only one standing for God on planet earth, God is saying to you right now, “There’s More Than You Think!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, The trials that I am going through may cause me concern, until I remember that there’s more people standing with me in prayer than are against me. Thank you! Amen

Only Fear Can Stop You

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Kings 19:9 There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

O-bservation:

Elijah had destroyed the Prophets of Baal at Mt. Carmel and prayed to the Lord for rain. AND it Rained!! Then Jezebel threatened to kill Elijah within twenty-four hours when she heard what he had done. Upon hearing her threat, Elijah wilted with FEAR and ran for more than forty days to a cave in Horeb. That's when God asked him, "What are you doing here Elijah?"

A-pplication:

When God asked Elijah what he was doing in Horeb, He was in effect saying, “Elijah your time is up.” The one thing the Lord will not tolerate in an aged leader is FEAR. It's one thing to be alarmed as a young person who hasn't known the Lord for very long. However, for a seasoned veteran to run away in fear … the Lord lovingly looked for someone new to use. Elijah immediately sought out Elisha and called him into service. Not long after, Elijah was taken up in a fiery chariot to heaven. Yes, Elijah finished victoriously by the grace of God, but in the process he learned "Only FEAR Can Stop You."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, May FAITH be my portion all the days of my life! Amen

Since When Is The Man Of God Your Enemy?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Kings 21:20 Ahab said to Elijah, "So you have found me my enemy." "I have found you," he answered, "because you have sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the Lord."

O-bservation:

Ahab was the wicked king of Israel. Yet he knew Elijah well, and he knew that Elijah would be on his trail should he rebel against the Lord. He rebelled anyway. Remember, this is the same Elijah who had faced off with Ahab before. Elijah had called for a three-year drought in Israel because of their waywardness, and it happened. He had the prophets of Baal slaughtered when he called fire out of heaven on Mt Carmel. This infuriated Ahab's witch wife, Jezebel. But now, Ahab had wanted a vineyard which belonged to one of his constituents named Naboth. However, Naboth wouldn't sell it to him. Ahab went home crying like a baby. His wife Jezebel had Naboth killed so Ahab could have Naboth's vineyard. God told Elijah to visit Ahab and tell him that his days were numbered. When Elijah showed up at the king's door, the king said, "So you have found me my enemy!"

A-pplication:

"Since When Is The Man Of God Your Enemy?" That's the most logical response to this king's statement. Don't you want to be a leader who yields to the God of the universe who created you and everything in the universe? It would seem intelligent to follow that God and his earthly spokesperson. Yet, when your heart is so puffed up with pride and self-absorption as was Ahab's, you may actually believe that you can compete on some level with that God! That was Ahab's downfall. In time Elijah's prophecies came to pass, and Ahab and his witch wife came to an end. I can tell you this, the man or the woman of God will never be my enemy.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I only want to do your will this AM. When I read this passage of scripture, my first thought was what fools Ahab, and his wicked wife were. I don't want to ever be in competition with you, dear Lord. I'm totally yours to yield to whatever you have for me. Amen

Are You Really Sure This Time?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Kings 17:24 Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is the truth.”

O-bservation:

This is the same woman of Zarephath that was with her son about to eat their last meal together and then die. Those were her own words from verse 12 of this same chapter. She had said those words because Elijah had shown up at her door for help. He had asked her for some bread and water, and that’s what she told him. Then Elijah said, “Go on and do as I say. Make a loaf of bread for me and one for you and your son. If you do that, the jar of flour and the jug of oil will never run dry in your house until God sends rain on the ground. So she did as the prophet said, and his word came to pass. Sometime after this GREAT MIRACLE, her son died, and she came running to Elijah and said, “What do you have against me. Did you come to remind me of my sin and kill my son?” Elijah took the boy to his room, cried out to God, and laid on him three times, and cried, “Lord let this boy live.” God heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him. When Elijah brought the boy alive to his mother, she said, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that you speak the truth.”

A-pplication:

Whenever I read this story, I always want to say to the woman, as though I’m standing right there with them, “Are You Really Sure This Time?” I mean, through the mouth of this prophet, God had already spared her life and her sons from starvation. He had already spoken the prophetic word about the jar and the jug never running dry until it rained again. Both of those had come to pass, but when you hear this statement, you wonder if she remembered what God had already done through Elijah’s prophetic word. I beg you, this AM, don’t be like this woman. If the boy had died, God would have still been God, and Elijah would have still been God’s spokesman for the hour. And if you are a man of God or a woman of God, you don’t have to wait for some doubter like this woman to finally approve of who you are. Go with God. Man’s approval may or may not come but stay with God’s call.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, There have been several times in my life when I knew I had heard your voice. But some friends thought I was nuts. I’m glad I went with your call instead of man’s approval. Help me to stick with your voice. Amen
