He Really Does Listen

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 116:1 I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.

O-bservation:

I love the words of the Psalmist in this verse. It’s so simple and so true. The writer simply says, “I love the Lord. For he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy” I’m not sure what kind of challenge David was facing, but he simply says, “The Lord heard my cry for mercy.” In the previous chapter, David talked about people who personally build gods from gold and silver that cannot see, hear, move, feel, smell, or walk. Now in this chapter, David says of our God, when we pray, “He Really Does Listen.”

A-pplication:

How many times have you just fallen on your bed, or the floor, or knelt at your couch, or cupped your face in your hands with your elbows on the kitchen table and said while weeping, “Oh God I need you right now?” How many times? I personally can’t count the times. There have been so many times in these almost seven decades of living that I didn’t think I could take another step, and my God heard me! He heard my cry for mercy. I can tell you, as a boy growing up, there were times I’d hear my father praying in his bedroom or in his office, “Oh Lord please have mercy on me!” I’ve only copied my father’s prayers through the years. But now we know that dad was copying King David’s prayer. And just like God listened to David and answered the king, He will answer your prayer today. Because “He Really Does Listen!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I may not be, but almost every day I have the feeling that I’m in trouble again. So whether I am or whether I’m not, I’m going to go ahead and pray it again! Oh God, have mercy on me. I don’t know much, but I do know this. You really do listen. Amen

ALWAYS Be Ready

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.

O-bservation:

The Apostle Peter told all of us who follow Jesus to “ALWAYS Be Ready” to give an answer as to why we have such hope when people ask us the question. But when we do give our answer, we must do it with gentleness and respect.

A-pplication:

What would happen if every time someone asked a believer in Jesus why they have such a hope they would just begin to talk about the love of the Lord? If all of us could make this gospel about the fact that it is LOVE-based, I believe it would melt hard hearts quicker than any brilliant presentation of theological discourse possibly could. I have found love to be the best antidote to any contention that people want to bring to the table. In no way am I suggesting that a critical understanding of doctrinal purity and truth isn’t necessary, but rather that people are concerned that your faith helps you love them more. So, when it comes to loving people as Jesus does, “ALWAYS Be Ready!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I’m heading out my front door to love. There’s enough hate, and there’s more than enough apathy. With Your help, I’ll be the Love person to turn hearts in Your direction. Amen

A Son’s Cry

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 83:18 Let them know that you, whose name is the Lord—that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

O-bservation:

The Psalmist was concerned about all of the enemies of Israel who lived nearby. Eventually there was no other solution but his loving Heavenly Father. It was as if he was saying, "Dad take em out!" You can hear "A Son’s Cry" in his intercession.

A-pplication:

When I was a little boy, I believed my Father could do anything. I even made claims to my friends concerning my Dad that were impossible for him to live up to. But I will tell you this, when I was in trouble and I cried for help there was never a time that my Father failed to answer and work a miracle on my behalf. That's the view from this son’s perspective. There have been challenges that I have faced that Dad and I both had to appeal to our Heavenly Father. He has also rescued me over an over again. As the Father of four sons, there’s nothing like being able to answer and attend to … "A Son's Cry." Please know that the word son represents daughters in this case as well. There is nothing that touches the Father like the "Cry of His Children." If you're in need today … "Cry Out To Dad!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, There are not enough words in my understanding to say Thank You for the many times You have answered my heart’s cry! Thanks Still! Amen

The Silence of The Rebellious Lambs

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Luke 20:26 They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.

O-bservation:

Throughout this chapter in Luke, Jesus was questioned by people of the religious establishment who were trying to trap Him in His own words. None of them were successful (because they were questioning God BTW), and in the end Scripture says they were so astonished by His answers that they were SILENT.

A-pplication:

The prophet Isaiah said, "All we like sheep have gone astray" (Is. 53:6). Jesus told us that His sheep would know His voice and obey (Jn. 10:3). The metaphor for humans acting out as sheep is used by writers in the Old and New Testament. Our AM text speaks of "Rebellious Sheep," men who were Hearing Jesus but not Listening to Jesus. You can hear someone speak, but if you are hearing in order to refuse what they said, or question what they said, or pushback on what they said, then LISTENING hasn't happened. When you really listen to a person it impacts you for CHANGE. Each time the religious leaders in this chapter heard Jesus, they argued, doubted, or pushed back on His teaching. Finally He answered them to the point that all that was left was ... "The Silence of The Rebellious Lambs."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I have listened to Your voice and I want to act upon what I've listened to You say. I can honestly tell You ... You have no argument from me! Amen
