Don’t Do It!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Proverbs 1:10 My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them.

O-bservation:

Solomon was advising his son in these opening chapters of the book of Proverbs. Just ten verses in, he gives a major directive. He said if SINFUL MEN (people) try to entice you to sin, ”Don’t Do It!”

A-pplication:

I love this Bible verse so much! When I was a young man, I’d use this passage all over the world speaking to young people. I’d tell them just like Solomon told his son, “If your friends want to drag you down to their level and turn their backs on God, Don’t Do It!” The challenge with this verse is that the one giving the command has to follow through and show his son or daughter or people they serve what it means to practice what you preach. Because Solomon couldn’t do what he told his son to do. He failed miserably in being a man of God. What happened? Solomon’s son, Rehoboam, was so FOOLISH that it’s hard to believe his father was the great wisdom giver. But even if Solomon couldn’t live up to his own advice, you still can. So if someone tries to get you to turn your back on God, “Don’t Do It!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m so grateful to have you as my ultimate hero. You lived what you preached, and I can never blame my failure on anyone! That’s why, with your help, I’ve kept my eyes on you. With your help, I won’t do what some have tempted me to do! Amen

The BEST Message Is The One You SEE

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 John 3:18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

O-bservation:

The Apostle John was quite aged when he wrote this letter, and he referred to the "Followers of Jesus" in that day as "Dear Children." Anytime we the "People of God" are referred to as children in Scripture, you can rest assured that the words are coming with Loving Fatherly Wisdom. And that "Loving Apostle” said, love requires more than words alone. Real love demands that actions and truth follow up those nice words.

A-pplication:

You've heard this said before ... "Talk Is Cheap!" And that is exactly what John is saying here. Words are nice, but if they are offered from the lips of a charlatan what is left after the speech? We who are "Followers of Jesus" must do more than speak. We must ACT on our words of love. Once again, you've heard it said, "Our actions speak louder than our words." This in no way discounts words. Words can bring Love, Encouragement, Joy, Security, and Peace to one who is hoping to hear the "Good News." But again, it's been said, "Preach the Gospel at all times, and if necessary use WORDS." That's what John the Apostle was saying, "The Best Message Is The One You See."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I am reminded as I head out of the house that the best message I can offer to those I come in contact with today is my life. They've heard most of my words, but they're looking for actions to back it up! With Your help I'm on it! Amen

Give IT To The Lord

S. O. A. P.

Here's your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Job 5:8 But if I were you, I would appeal to God; I would lay my cause before him.

O-bservation:

When disaster struck the life and household of Job, three of his friends came to sit with him and discuss the "Big Issues" of life. This happened after his wife had told him to "Curse God and die." The first friend began a long diatribe of what had happened, why it had happened, and what he should do. Not all of the information that this friend presented Job was worthwhile, but this one line is true for all time ... "Job if I were you, I'd give IT to the Lord."

A-pplication:

It amazes me that so many unusual, yet documented, miracles happen on a regular basis in Third World countries among "Followers of Jesus." Have you ever wondered about that? Maybe we here in the West don't see as many (Total and complete ... no doubt about it ... It had to be The Lord's intervention type miracles) because "The Lord" is not always the FIRST source of help we look to. Why is it that we mortal men and women (I am including myself in this question) seem to take any option but "The Lord" FIRST in a time of trouble? Perhaps it's because we look to our own “Limited Resources” FIRST ... as if they were consistently proven. In the dead center of Job's "Massive Trouble," his friend said — and this is what I am also encouraging YOU to do right now as well — "Give IT To The Lord!" P-rayer:
Dear Jesus, Before I appeal to Lawyers, Doctors, CPAs, Insurance People, or Salespeople, I want to FIRST of all say ... Jesus You are my first source. What will You do to take my pain away? IT'S in Your hands Lord. I am Yours! Amen
