God Will Provide

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 22:8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

O-bservation:

This is the story of Abraham taking his young son Isaac up Mt. Moriah to sacrifice his son to the Lord. Isaac said to his father, “We have the fire and the wood but where is the sacrifice to be burned?” His father answered, “God Will Provide!”

A-pplication:

This is a very familiar passage of scripture to most believers. Isaac had no idea that HE was the sacrifice. So, he asked his father a heartfelt question. His father replied, “God Will Provide.” Of course, we know that God did provide a ram in the thicket just in time for Abraham to spare his son. But what is it you need today? Please I beg you, don’t lose hope and don’t worry today because I can assure you that, “God Will Provide!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m so grateful this AM that just before I worried about something that’s just around the corner, you reminded me of this story. You provided for Abraham then, and I know that you will provide for me now. Thank You! Amen

Once Again, God Keeps His Promises

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Kings 4:20 The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore; they ate, they drank and they were happy.

O-bservation:

Here is the fulfillment of the promise God made to Abraham in Genesis 22:17. God told Abraham that one day His descendants would be as numerous as the sand on the seashore.

A-pplication:

It took some 1,200 years for this promise made to Abraham, by God, to come to pass. But "Once Again God Keeps His Promises." What is it you're believing for? What is it that you've been waiting for? If God has made you a promise, then keep waiting and keep believing. It's understandable that some promises are for more than just your light bill. Don't hold God accountable for not saving your grandchildren if you're old and they're not in school yet. Abraham probably shook his head when God promised that his offspring would be as numerous as the sand of the seashore when he only had a few in his family. However, after seeing God keep so many promises in his life, he went to sleep in God knowing that "God Keeps His Promises!" Don't give up believing, you're God’s child too.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Lord, this AM I don't have much to hold on to except ... Your promise. For me, that's enough! Amen

FAITH=RIGHTEOUSNESS

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 15:6 Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

O-bservation:

Abram had no son, but he had a promise from God that his offspring would match the number of stars in the sky. When he believed that promise, God said Abram was a righteous man. "FAITH=RIGHTEOUSNESS."

A-pplication:

This passage in Genesis is repeated throughout the Bible. Psalms, Romans, Galatians, Hebrews, and James all reference this passage. Why? When a man or woman decides to have FAITH in God, immediately God imputes RIGHTEOUSNESS to them. Yes this is only the beginning of a growing maturity as a "Follower Of Jesus," yet it is true that immediate FAITH in God results in immediate RIGHTEOUSNESS from God. It's not so much what we DO, it's more about in whom we BELIEVE. Noah had faith in God, and because of it he received favor from God, but perhaps Abraham was the first to believe the "PROMISE" from God. God called it a lasting covenant and Abraham believed. In an earlier post, I talked about you and me still receiving the blessing from the covenant God made with Abraham 4,000 years ago. I'm so glad "FAITH=RIGHTEOUSNESS."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Today I've learned that before righteousness there first needs to be FAITH. This AM my faith is in You! Amen

The Longevity Of God’s Promise

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 12:2 I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

O-bservation:

God told Abram that He would build a great nation out of him. God told him that he, Abram, would be a blessing to many.

A-pplication:

This story proves "The Longevity Of God’s Blessing." Certainly Abraham's view of this promise and our present day view are vastly different. Shortly after the promise, Abraham was given cattle and sheep from the Pharaoh of Egypt. Then he rescued his nephew, Lot, from enemy kings with 318 of his men. Most likely, Abraham thought “I have been built into a great nation.” But it's difficult to build a great nation in a generation. Certainly Abraham could never have imagined that some 4,000 years later we would still be talking about him and recognizing the greatness of the Jewish people throughout the ages. The promises of God for us last long beyond our lifetime, if we'll live as He has asked us to live. You can build a legacy on just one promise from God.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Thank You for Your promises. I'm living on them everyday. I'm trusting You for a real long run. Amen

Take Your Only Son And Sacrifice Him!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 22:2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

O-bservation:

Abraham was an old man when God asked him to “Take Your Only Son And Sacrifice Him.” Abraham had an older son named Ishmael by his wife Sarah’s handmaiden, Hagar. Ishmael was blessed, but God did not recognize Ishmael as the promised son God would give Abraham. The promised one was Isaac, and now God was asking Abraham to sacrifice him as a burnt offering back to God.

A-pplication:

Whenever I read this passage, it’s on the same day every year based on my reading schedule. And every year, it falls on January eighth. That happens to be my oldest son’s birthday. Today he turns forty-one! There was a time he was my only son, but now I have four. There is no way I can wrap my head around sacrificing any of my four sons on a burning altar! I know it was a different time in history, but the context is the same, no matter how primitive it may have been. A father willing to kill his son for God’s sake. It’s one thing to dedicate your child to the Lord on child dedication Sunday once a month, but this was “For Real!” Abraham passed the test, and God saved Abraham’s son. But think about God himself, in time being willing to answer His own call. He did sacrifice his ONLY SON, whom he LOVED, so you and I could go free.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, As I’m wishing my oldest son a Happy Birthday today, I’m thinking of the price You, as a father, were willing to pay for your son Jesus to give His life for me. It’s unfathomable for me to try and understand that, but I can never thank You enough. Amen
